The Basics of Motorcycle Camping Gear

If you use your bike and camp, motorcycle camping gear is a must. Traveling with your motorcycle is a great experience. Amazing experiences are to be had with long distance travel on your hog and camping under the open sky. Camping with your motorcyle is rather different from other types of camping. You will be going where you are with your bike, not by foot, or by car. With motorcyle camping, you will need to pack only what you need.

Saddlebags on your motorcyle can be used to store some of your items. You will also need another bag such as a duffel bag. What you will need to bring with you will depend on where you are going and for how long. Different climates and terrains require different equipment. Camping alone in the wild will require more supplies for safety than you'll need if you are heading to a crowded campground full of other people. There are some basics that you will want to pack no matter where you are going.

Don't forget food and water. You will also need a change or two of clothing, a compass, a Swiss Army knife, matches, a sleeping bag and/or cot, featherweight portable tent, money and coins, a first aid kit, toilet paper, rain gear, a map, and trash bags for disposing of any waste items. If you will be requiring toiletries be sure to pack travel size items like hotel sized bottles of shampoo, toothpaste and soap. It's a good idea to make a detailed list and check it twice before embarking on your journey.

If you'll be traveling with other bikers, discuss with them as to what motorcycle camping gear you should bring along. If you're biking alone, try inquiring at your local bike shop. Many of the employees at these shops have ample experience traveling via motorcycle and can give you lots of great tips. They might also be able to recommend (and sell you) some cool equipment that is perfect for a motorcycle camping journey. Thanks to the renewed popularity of motorcycles, there is at least one shop in most cities and towns. You might feel a bit nervous before taking off on your first trip, but once you embark you're sure to get hooked on the freedom and beauty that you'll enjoy along the way!
